PANJIM: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the refurbished Goa Customs and Central Excise Museum, the only its kind in the country at a function to be held at Panjim, at 3.30 pm, on Saturday, June 11.
The Museum is housed in the famed “Blue Building”, a heritage building built around 1600 and situated on the Dayanand Bandodkar Road along the banks of the River Mandovi.

The museum was first inaugurated by then Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on July 25, 2009 and since then more galleries and more artifacts have been added.
The museum has a collection of seized items as well as articles used by the Customs and Central Excise Department. It has some articles in its collection which were gifted. In addition, the refurbished museum will also have the nation’s first ever GST gallery, walking through the long and arduous journey towards GST spanning two decades.
In addition to existing seven galleries, more galleries have now been added.
Besides, the introductory gallery that gives a brief history of the Customs and Central Excise Department, the Customs Heritage gallery will takes one through the evolution of taxation systems and practices from ancient India through the Medieval, Mughal and Colonial era traversing to the contemporary times.
