PANJIM: The Goa Board has informed that all schools ~ including those at the higher secondary level~ should go by the circular issued in 2012 as far as allotting marks for sportsmen in concerned, board and Education Department officials said. Students have to follow circular number 44 while submitting their applications , they informed.
“This circular is to be followed,” Board Secretary Bhagirath Shetye told Herald, putting to rest  the disquiet among many students over the new sports policy and the quantum of marks to be added on.
There was confusion in the minds of many parents and students after the Sports Department had issued a circular to all secondary and higher secondary schools on the subject of implementation of the marks according to the new sports policy dated  March 14, 2013, giving details of the marks to be allotted to students according to the new sports policy.
A board official, however, said “For the next year the, a review will take place and a fresh decision will be taken,” the board official said, a thought also echoed by Education Department officials.
Earlier the Education Department based on an earlier sports policy used to allot 15 marks for Std XII students for representing schools at the state level and 30 marks for those participating in  sports events at the national level.
But according to the new sports policy released by the State government,  students who have represented schools at state and national levels are allotted 10 and 20 marks respectively.
