PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday announced that his government will introduce human equality concept in Goa aimed at reducing caste-based victimization along with clamping down on discriminatory practices, if any.
Parrikar was speaking while paying homage to the father of the Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 122nd birth anniversary celebration at a state level function jointly organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare in association with Goa State SC/OBC Finance and Development Corporation Ltd., at Dr Ambedkar Park, in Panjim today.
Parrikar said that it is time for the Dalits to empower themselves. Citing the example of Deepstamba, a self-help group belonging to Dalit women, he said that such initiatives should be discovered which would be a valuable tool for social empowerment.There is a need to carry out continuous evaluation of Scheduled Tribe /Scheduled Caste people, help them to be empowered,” he said.
Speaking about Dr Ambedkar, Parrikar said that his view points need to be inculcated in day-to-day life.
Speaking on the occasion Goa legislative assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar said it is important that we read and understand the thoughts of Dr Ambedkar. He said Dr Ambedkar should be understood by the younger generation and remembered throughout and not only during the birth and death anniversaries.
Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik, former Chief Minister Shashikala Kakodkar, City Mayor Surendra Furtado, director social welfare Vijay Paranjapee and others were also present.
