MAPUSA:Four Russians, including three women, were rescued from drowning off Mandrem beach by lifesavers on Thursday afternoon.

The three women, aged 27, 20 and 40, along with a 26-yr-old man, found themselves in distress, after sudden and unexpected, high waves surged in the area. The group had ventured into the water, just as the conditions quickly became unsafe for swimming.
All four foreigners panicked in the water and signalled for help. Recognising the distress signals, lifesaver Jatin Girap, rushed into the water with a rescue board. Another lifesaver, Sudhir Parab, on jetski, also joined in the rescue operation to get the four individuals to safety.
The lifesavers have appealed to the people to avoid swimming in unsafe waters and to heed their guidance for their own safety.
Meanwhile, at Candolim beach, two men, aged 24 and 29 from Assam, were caught in a rip current. Lifesavers used a rescue board to bring both individuals safely to shore. Additionally, a 27-year-old man from Dhule, Maharashtra, was rescued from a flash rip current and reunited with his friends. Meanwhile, at Benaulim beach, an 80-year-old British tourist was bitten by a stray dog while strolling along the shore. At Colva beach, a lifesaver assisted a woman tourist after an individual attempted to steal her purse while she was swimming. The suspect was caught by the lifesaver and handed over to the police. At Betalbatim beach, a 76-year-old European man suffered a leg cramp while swimming and was transported to shore using a jet ski. At Arambol beach, a 46-year-old woman from Mumbai suffered an epileptic seizure while on the shore. Lifesavers administered oxygen and called for an ambulance for immediate medical attention.
