The 19th IPL season is set to begin on March 28, 2026, but India’s ongoing LPG shortage is creating uncertainty for the tournament. IPL governing council chairman Arun Dhumal explained that all stakeholders are monitoring the situation closely, and a decision will be made as developments unfold. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that LPG supplies to essential non-domestic sectors are being prioritised due to fuel shortages caused by the West Asia conflict.
Hotel associations in Bengaluru and Chennai have indicated that their LPG stock will last only a day or two, adding pressure on logistical planning. The IPL schedule remains unreleased, partly due to upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, though the first two days of the tournament are expected by March 12.
