CORTALIM: In what could further provoke resentment among Environment Minister and local MLA Alina Saldanha along with her supporters, sitting Sancoale ZP member Aparna Naik on Monday stated that she had been given the MGP party ticket to contest the forthcoming Sancoale ZP elections.
Confirming this to Herald, Naik said she would file her nomination on Tuesday.
Aparna is the daughter of Bhoj Naik, who had served as former sarpanch of Sancoale. He is also known to be very close to Sancoale panch and former sarpanch Ramakant Borkar, who was accused by Saldanha of having a deal with South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar to sideline her.
In the last election, Naik and also Cortalim ZP member Cynthia D’Silva was supported by then Cortalim MLA Mauvin Godinho. During the last ZP elections both the Sancoale and Cortalim ZPs were part of the Cortalim constituency. With the new delimitation, the Sancoale ZP now consists of only Sancoale and Chicalim villages, with Chicolna-Bogmalo now forming part of Cortalim ZP.
