PONDA: The issue of garbage menace dominated the discussions at the Kavlem gram sabha on Sunday, wherein the villagers also raised issues relating to the development of the village.
Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar informed the gram sabha that the Panchayat has been segregating wet and dry garbage including plastic and that collected dry garbage is sent to Pollution Control Board every fifteen days.
He informed that the panchayt was facing difficulties in disposing wet garbage, which, he said, is temporarily buried in pits. However, as a permanent solution to the issue, Kavlekar said, the panchayat has decided to set up a unique biogas plant in the village at a cost of Rs 20 lakh that will generate either electricity or cooking gas and the project would be completed in the year 2019.
The locals also raised the issue of littering of garbage at Kavlem by the tourists and it was resolved to install dustbins and also boards urging the tourists to maintain cleanliness.
Kavlekar said that the panchayat has initiated garbage collection in ward number 8 and 9 by providing dustbins and has been successful in maintaining those wards clean and further steps would be taken to collect garbage from all wards.
The villagers also demanded shifting of the proposed mobile tower near religious Math citing that it is coming in residential area and also a school is operating in the vicinity.
Paunwada residents complained of stray cattle and dog menace, to which the sarpanch said that the problem could be solved but needed place to keep the seized dogs and cattle.
