PANJIM: Bridges at Gaundalim and Cumbarjua will be thrown open on Saturday. The bridges will be inaugurated by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in the presence of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
Herald had recently reported that though the Gaundalim bridge had been completed, it was awaiting an inauguration as construction of the approach roads had been delayed.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Chairman Dr Pramod Sawant, said the work undertaken by the corporation was split into construction of bridge at Cumbarjua; and Gaundalim including approaches, construction of approaches to Cumbarjua bridge including link up to Khandola College and widening and strengthening the existing road from Old Goa junction to Gaundalim bridge including asphalting from Old Goa junction to Khandola College.
To a question whether farmers would be compensated as some portion of their land was acquired for the project, the MLA replied in the positive.
Sawant, who is the Sanquelim MLA, announced the launch of a job fair on Saturday wherein 40 companies from across the country would conduct placement programs for local youth.
“We have seen that majority youth chase government jobs resulting in a communication gap between them and the private companies. This results in unemployment. There is requirement of people in many companies and as such we decided to bring them together,” he said.
The MLA expects more than 1500 job aspirants to attend the fair. “We are expecting around 40-50 percent job offers at this event and more 10-20 percent in the coming six months,” he said.
