The Goa Bank Employees’ Association (GBEA) will join the nationwide strike called by different Central trade unions on September 7.
According to a press statement issued by GBEA General Secretary A M Pereira, trade unions – INTUC, HMS, AITUC, CITU, AIUTUC, UTUC, TUCC and AICCTU have jointly given a strike call over issues like alarming price rise, huge job losses, large-scale disinvestment in public sector, rampant violation of labour laws and lack of adequate protection to unorganised workers.
The trade unions, mostly from oil, coal, steel, transport, defense, telecommunication, postal service, banks, insurance, electricity, etc, have decided to join the strike, while private sector trade unions too will join the strike, besides agriculture and plantation sector workers will participate in the strike.
In the banking sector, the All India Bank Employees’ Association has given the call for strike. Employees in public sector banks, private sector banks, foreign banks, co-operative banks and regional rural banks will take part in the strike.
The unions have criticised government policies that are increasingly becoming anti-people and anti-poor, while the rich and corporate are enabled to corner and accumulate huge wealth at the cost of the general masses.
