PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) is in process of drafting the new coastal zone management plan (CZMP), which will map mangroves, sand dunes and other ecological sensitive areas of the State.
The new plan will also focus on identifying and demarcating fishing villages, thereby giving protection to the community under the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) notification 1991. The plan will demarcate afresh the High Tide Line (HTL) and Low Tide Line (LTL) for the coastal state.
A senior official said GCZMA has already commenced work to draft the new coastal management plan for the State and it is expected to be ready by this year end. “The mangrove plantation has grown over the years and hence there is a need to freshly map this eco-sensitive area. Even the sand dunes will be demarcated as per CRZ notification,” an official said.
The existing CZMP, drafted in 1996 (extended time and again) was valid up to January 2016.
