PANJIM: Terming the complaints of loud music as business rivalry, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday said that the Mandrem party issue has been blown out of proportion by the media.
“I think it is nothing but business rivalry, which has been blown out of proportion,” the chief minister said when asked to comment on the issue. Parsekar said that whenever he is in his constituency he makes sure he takes a round and finds out for himself the situation. “I have found nothing of this sort,” Parsekar said.
On Thursday a local journalist of a news channel, complained he had been threatened by a BJP leader for his stories of late night parties in the constituencies.
Around a fortnight ago residents of the area had complained to Pernem police station that the late night parties were disturbing their children, who would be answering the SSC exams.
The parents had also approached the Goa Human Rights Commission over the issue while some women groups have also filed complaints at the police station.
However, the chief minister, who represents the constituency said, “Just because women have complained does not mean whatever is talked about is true. I am looking into it, even a restaurateur, who is jealous of someone else’ business can gather four-five women and file a complaint. Let me find out first,” he said.
