PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued a stop order cum show-cause notice to the owners of a bar and restaurant and a resort in Tiracol, which are being constructed in violation of the CRZ notification of 2011.
The illegal constructions, which are reportedly coming up on land that has been acquired for the Tiracol golf course project, lack permissions from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Forest Department, Tiracol panchayat, Town and Country Planning department (TCP). It is also located in an eco-sensitive area marked by the Biodiversity Board. The illegal structures are owned by one Diago Costancio D’Souza, a resident of Tiracol.
The bar and restaurant and the 20-room resort with a swimming pool and ultramodern amenities is located in Survey No 15 1-A and 15/2.
The GCZMA action comes a few days after a local Savio Rodrigues approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) praying that the illegal structures be demolished. He had also sought interim relief by staying the ongoing construction work.
The petition was filed on grounds that the structures are located in a no-development zone, which has also been categorized as an ecologically sensitive zone.
Following the petition, GCZMA inspected the site and observed that the constructions are in blatant violation of CRZ rules. It then issued a stop-work order with immediate effect and a show-cause notice as to why the structures shouldn’t be demolished and the land be restored to its original condition.
