PANJIM: The Goa Coastal Zone Management Committee (GCZMA) has decided to impose environmental compensation on the violators of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules and regulation across the beach belts of Morjim, Mandrem, Galgibag and Agonda.
The GCZMA during its meeting last month has directed the expert members comprising of Savio Correia, Sujeetkumar Dongre and Pranoy Boudhya, to work out environmental compensation in each and every case wherein violation of CRZ rules and regulations are noticed and submit report.

The violations in questions along these beaches include alteration natural landscape, erection of temporary or permanent structures, landscaping by removing native vegetation, flattening the dunes, change in native vegetation composition, construction of swimming pool etc.
During the meeting, the authority resolved to carry out exercise of calculation of fines based on area damaged calculating difference in land use change in square metre by satellite imagery (from the year the violation was noticed) along with field verification on case to case basis so that compensation can be recovered from the violators.
With respect to the sound and light pollution, the Authority decided that the fine can be levied using polluter pay principle. Assistance from Goa State pollution Board (GSPCB) will be sought in this regard.
