Addressing a press conference, GenNext President Durgadas Kamat alleged there are rumors that the chartered accountants did not conduct any audit of the mining companies but presented a superficial report. “We demand that the government come out with a white paper on the issue, giving details about the total loss ascertained and the kind of irregularities conducted,” he said.
“The paper should also highlight the steps initiated by the government for recovery of losses,” he added.
Kamat alleged that mining lobbies fund political parties and hence the government is under pressure to protect their interests.
In a bid to identify the loss to the State due to illegal mining and recover it, the government in 2014 appointed a panel of 17 CAs, who are going over details of ore extracted and exported between 2005 and 2012. As per DMG the CAs have already submitted their report to the government and it is under scrutiny.
