Goans for Dabolim Only (GFDO) has alleged that efforts are underway to gradually shut down civil aviation operations at Dabolim Airport in order to promote traffic at the Mopa Airport, which is operated by the GMR Group.
In a statement, GFDO claimed that the Mopa project was advanced despite earlier concerns raised by experts and various agencies, including questions over its financial viability. The organisation alleged that restrictions imposed on Dabolim Airport have reduced its competitiveness, while airlines and passengers are now facing higher charges at Mopa.

GFDO further contended that substantial public funds have been invested in the Mopa project at the expense of local communities and farmers, and questioned the priorities of the state government. The group also criticised the government for what it described as a failure to honour assurances that Dabolim Airport would continue to handle civil aviation operations alongside defence activities.
Warning against any attempt to curtail or phase out operations at Dabolim, GFDO said the airport remains a vital lifeline for Goa’s economy, tourism sector, and connectivity. The organisation cautioned that any move to reduce civil flights at Dabolim would face strong public opposition.
GFDO reiterated its demand for the continued and full-fledged operation of Dabolim Airport, stressing that Goa requires two functional airports to meet present and future air traffic needs.
