MARGAO: Goans for Goa (GFG) criticised Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s stance that Fr Bismarque Dias was not murdered as well as his reasons for not handing over the case to the Crime Branch.
Claiming that the police may have destroyed evidence at the site, GFG, has demanded that the investigation be handed over to CB.
“Why are the police afraid to give the case to Crime Branch? This will in fact allay the public’s fears that the police and government are not transparent about the whole issue,” said GFG president Kennedy Afonso, who added that the government and police could not jump to a conclusion that the case is not a murder when the finger print and viscera report is not yet out.
Afonso stated, “GFG has a very good rapport and deep respect for Fr Bisamarque, and hence, we undertook our own investigation, which has revealed a lot of grey areas. They need to be thoroughly probed by a competent agency, if you are serious about arriving at the truth.”
GFG’s reasons for handing over the case include: the police have not yet examined the bottles for fingerprints; they have failed to collect the beer bottle tops and even all the bottles at the site; they did not bring a vehicle to collect the body, which was exposed for almost two hours; they have not bothered to comb the site, as indicated by Fr Bismarque’s pen – a vital clue – that was lying in the water.
