MAPUSA: Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded that the Principal Accountant General conducts an audit of Goa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and the Labour Department.

A delegation of Goa Forward party headed by party president Vijai Sardesai along with Party Vice President Durgadas Kamat, Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar met the Principal Accountant General (PAG) at Audit Bhavan and submitted a written memorandum seeking complete Audit of Goa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and the Labour Department.
In their letter, the delegation stated that the State authorities and welfare board have turned a blind eye towards the objective it was constituted for, namely, welfare of the building and other construction workers and have deliberately been siphoning off funds.
The letter further stated that the large corpus of the welfare board should be audited urgently so to resolve the issue as to how much amount has been disbursed to the labour net company; and to also examine all the material documents and accounts on record to verify how the fund is being used or misused by the authorities.
The delegation urged the PAG to interfere and act as a sentinel against misfeasance without fear or favour so as to curb the plunder of public money so that the persons who are responsible for siphoning the funds be punished and the accountability be fixed.
“Money which was supposed to reach the building construction workers has reached to political workers. The BJP Government intends to finish the Rs 227 crore of labour share due to which, we have demanded the Accountant General makes an audit of Goa Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and the Labour Department,” Sardesai added.
“Everyone is talking about this scam including the ex-MLAs of BJP. BJP have fixed rates of the land and year 2020 is fast forward for BJP to make money and loot and scoot. This government is doing systemic and institutionalised corruption due to which it’s the responsibility of the regional parties and Goans to save Goa and not allow government to finish the public wealth”, he said
He added that in the name of pandemic, a looting scheme of government is going on. “It’s high time for unity of opposition and when time comes, everyone will see the united opposition. We are in touch with few congress leaders and since congress is a national party, their process is long,” Sardesai added.
