PANJIM: Goa Medical College will have to shell out a figure close to Rs 30-lakh as fees and penalties for seeking a valid Biomedical Waste Authorization as required under the Biomedical Waste Rules. Chairman of the GSPCB Jose Manuel Noronha said that the Goa Medical College has now asked for government approval to spend that money.
“The fees they have to pay for the consent works out to nearly Rs 30 lakh. It’s high because they have not paid for so many years including penalties and all. So they have sought government approval,” Noronha said.
That the GMC was operating without the consent from the GSPCB came to light when board officials were checking the files of the healthcare establishment.
