PANJIM: Addressing over 7,000 BJP workers at the party convention at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium, at Taleigao plateau, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who considers Goa as a lucky charm, was all praises for this tiny state, Saturday evening.
“Me and Goa share a special relation…in my life all important developments related to my political career have taken place in Goa,” he said. He also recalled how Goa turned out to be lucky for him in June 2013, when he was appointed as Lok Sabha elections campaign chief during the BJP’s national convention, the first step towards being named Prime Ministerial candidate.
Modi also said that Goa kept on inviting him and he is always happy to visit the state.
Thanking Goans for cent-percent result in BJP’s favour in LS polls for electing both BJP candidates at the general elections, Modi extended his full support in fulfilling the plans and promises of Manohar Parrikar led government that aims at making Goa a model state. “Manoharji is committed towards making Goa a developed, modern and poverty free Goa. I assure people of Goa that whatever plans and steps Manoharji has initiated, the Centre would provide full support in fulfilling them,” Modi said in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The Prime Minister said that Goa that has one of the leading intellectual BJP workers and can be a model state for the rest of India, where technology can play an important role in connecting people across the world. He appealed to BJP workers to target youth between the age group of 12-18 years who can determine the future of India politics till the end of BJP tenure.
On the national front, once again taking dig at the former UPA government for pushing the Indian economy into shambles, Modi indicated that he would take some strong and bold decisions to improve country’s economy. Modi added that his decisions and actions might not be welcomed or go down well with some sections.
“Taking tough decisions and strong measures in the coming one or two years are needed to bring financial discipline which will restore and boost the country’s self-confidence,” he said. “Praising Modi or BJP or Government won’t help in changing the economic situation. But some strong and stern decisions are needed,” he said adding “after these decisions, some might not praise Modi but I am confident that the success of those decisions will have showers of praises for Modi and BJP.”
