MARGAO: In response to a concerning surge in crimes against children, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) convened a high-level meeting at the Secretariat Conference Hall. The meeting brought together heads of various departments and district administration officials and was chaired by GSCPCR Chairperson Peter F Borges. The primary focus of the gathering was to deliberate on ways to improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the child protection system.
Representatives from several key departments participated in the meeting, including the Directorate of Education (DoE), Goa Educational Development Corporation, Directorate Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), North and South District Magistrates, Goa Police, and the Departments of Women and Child Development (WCD), Panchayat, and Tribal Welfare.

Chairperson Borges emphasised that child protection is a shared responsibility, extending to all departments involved in welfare or protection at various levels. “Safeguarding and protecting children is given too little attention for quite some time now. The most common reactions being that it does not happen, is someone else’s responsibility or is an isolated incident,” said Borges.
Borges further stated that child protection is not an act of charity; rather, it requires a just and resolute approach from all involved parties to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the child protection system.
