Goa Foundation moves HC over Sonsodo

The controversy over untreated Sonsodo garbage has reached the High Court.
The Goa Foundation on Friday filed a writ petition before Bombay High Court at Goa to issue direction to Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to treat garbage at Sonsodo before monsoon sets in.
The counsel for Goa Foudation Adv Norma Alvares mentioned the matter before Division Bench of Justices P B Majmudar and U D Salvi for urgent circulation.
Goa Foudation fears that if garbage dumped at Sonsodo is left untreated through monsoon it might lead to epidemic once it starts raining.
The MMC has not been able to treat garbage for want of proper and scientific facilities. Apparently, Margao Municipal body is in receipt of Rs 3.22 crore from the government to set up a land fill facility at Sonsodo. Goa Foudation had submitted a proposal to MMC to set-up the facilities.
