PANJIM: PANJIM: Though many states across India have banned Nestle product Maggi, Goa’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not taken any such drastic move and has decided to continue testing the product limiting it only to Maggi two-minute noodles for the moment.
FDA Deputy Director Jyothi Sardesai said, “Currently we have not found any evidence in the samples we have collected for a ban of any sort on the products. We will, however, be conducting testing of more samples in the days to come.”
She said that officials from the FDA conducted raids on Nestlé’s factory in Ponda recently and have taken several samples, though not giving a figure on the number of samples taken.
As for Nestlé’s other products, Sardesai said the focus was on the popular two minute noodles and they will be looking at other products in the near future.
“For the moment, we are focusing only on the noodles. Other products by the company will be looked into as well but in due course of time,” she said.
Of the five samples sent for testing to the department’s laboratory in Bambolim three tested negative for high levels of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead. Two samples are still awaited.
, both of which are expected on Monday.
Earlier this week, 10 of 13 samples sent for testing in Delhi were found to contain MSG and lead in excess of the prescribed limit. Lead content meant to be at a limit of 2.5 parts per million (ppm) was found to be 3.5 ppm.
