The Goa govern ment on Wednesday an nounced a compensation of Rs 40,000 per hectare for farmers who suffered crop losses due to the in cessant rains over the past few days. Farmers across the state have faced significant loss es as continuous rainfall prevented them from har vesting their crops, leaving large tracts of farmland wa terlogged and damaged. Meanwhile, Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sarde sai responded to the an nouncement, stating, “The announcement made by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today to compen sate paddy farmers under the Shetkari Aadhar Nidhi scheme comes only after our collective and consist ent demand to support farmers whose fields were destroyed due to unseason al rains.” “This decision is not a fa vour, but the right of Goan farmers who have suffered massive losses. For days, farmers stood helpless while the government fo cused on events and vote bank schemes. We raised this issue strongly and demanded a Majhe Xett scheme,” he said. Vijai said, “Today’s an nouncement is a step for ward, but what matters now is timely execution. Compensation must reach farmers quickly and with out harassment, paperwork traps, or discrimination. Goa’s farmers feed Goa — they deserve respect, sup port, and protection, not neglect. We remain com mitted to standing united for Goa, Goans, and Goan livelihoods.
