PANJIM: The opposition leaders on Tuesday claimed that law and order in the state has collapsed but police are summoning opposition leaders and not those who are directly involved in the land grabbing cases.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa Vice President Valmiki Naik said, “Police do not know what they are doing. I do not blame the police for it. I blame Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. He is ordering the agencies to hound the people who have released the video. Sunil Kawthankar did not shoot the video nor did he escape from the police custody. So why is the person who has released the video being probed?.”
“It only shows that whatever crime you commit, nothing will happen to you but if you speak against the BJP then you will be served summons and a probe will be initiated against you. This is the message Pramod Sawant is trying to send,” he said.
He demanded that the police released the video footage as sought by Suleman Khan.
“The problem is that the truth is being suppressed. The way the land grabbing accused escaped from custody only proves that there is complete collapse of law and order in the state,” Valmiki Naik said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Tulio D’Souza said Goa Police was supposed to be one of the best forces in the country but due to the pressure of ruling dispensation energy of the police is being wasted.
“Instead of they (police) going after the criminals and maintaining the law and order situation in the state, opposition leaders are being called for questioning and their statements are being recorded. This is wrong. I am sure people of Goa are watching it and will give a proper reply at the appropriate time,” he said.
