UK Goan, Shiroda local booked for land-grabbing, forgery in Ponda

PONDA: The Ponda Police have registered an offence against two individuals in a land grabbing and cheating case reported at Shiroda. The accused are identified as Flyod Coutinho, a resident of England, UK, and Praveen Raikar, from Shiroda, Ponda.

The complaint was filed by Minguel Fernandes and Santana Fernandes, both residents of Shiroda. The alleged crime occurred between August 13, 2012 and September 21, 2024, involving property in Survey No. 219/2 of Shiroda village.

According to police, the accused Flyod Coutinho initially approached the complainants as a property dealer after their son, Colins Fernandes, shared property documents to help find a prospective buyer.

The accused persons, with a common intention, allegedly impersonated the complainants and fraudulently executed a power of attorney in favour of Praveen Raikar in August 2012. Using this fraudulent document, Raikar then executed a sale deed on April 18, 2022 before the Sub-Registrar in Ponda, transferring the property to Abbas Ali Makandar, a resident of Dongorim-Navelim, Salcete. The complainants claim this transaction caused them a loss of Rs 6 lakh.

An offence under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), Sec 419 (cheating by impersonation), Sec 465 (forgery), Sec 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), Sec 471 (using a forged document as genuine) read with Sec 34 has been registered
