VASCO: In order to make the nationwide strike, called on September 2 by a convention of 11 Central Trade Unions (CTUs), a grand success in Goa, the members affiliated to 14 different trade unions from Goa have decided to intensify its moment in Goa to ensure that not a single vehicle moves on the strike day, this was revealed by the by the members of trade union at the sidelines of awareness campaign held in Vasco on Tuesday.
The strike will cover public and private sectors including banking, railways, airways besides taxi and other commercial transporters across Goa. Also this is for the first time in the history that all trade unions have joined hands and are making efforts to seek public support to oppose the anti people and anti labour policies of the central government that is all set to pass several bills including land acquisition bill, road transport and safety bill under which fines would be increased extensively and various other bills.
“We are having series of meetings across Goa only to create awareness amongst the people about the way the BJP government in centre are trying to make sweeping changes in the labour laws in name of labour reforms by amending the existing labour laws in favour of employers, similarly are also trying to snatch away farmers fertile land by land acquisition bill thereby killing the commercial transport industry only to pass on the benefits to big players in the market. There are many such amendments proposed to be passed by the BJP which is anti people and therefore we have decide to support the nationwide strike and that too by ensuring that not a single vehicle should be seen moving on the roads on the strike day,” said Vinayak Nanoskar, General secretary North Goa Tourist Taxi owners Association.
