PANJIM: The Department of Legal Metrology seized goods worth Rs 14 lakh and booked four cases against traders from Santa Cruz for violations of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 for selling unauthorised products and operating without verification certificates. Around seven officers under Legal Metrology Controller (in charge) Dilip Kholkar carried out the raids on Tuesday.
One case was booked against Everest Agencies, wherein 509 packages of Everest voltage stabilizer and 32 packages of Everest Water Heater worth Rs 13.75 lakh were seized for not bearing manufacture dates.
Another case was booked against Delivery Corner, wherein 17 packages of Prince Chips, worth Rs 4000 were seized for not having the declaration ‘not a standard pack size’. One electronic weighing instrument was also seized for not bearing the stamping plate and for not exhibiting verification certificate in the premises.
Two enforcement cases were booked at a hardware and general store in the village for using un-verified weighing scale and for not exhibiting verification certificate in the premises.
The department has given an ultimatum to all traders to exhibit the verification certificate in the trading premises failing which action will be taken for violation of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Goa Legal Metrology Rules, 2011.
