MARGAO: In view of the part commissioning of the new South Goa District Hospital at Margao, GOACAN in a letter to South Goa Collector Ajit Roy has highlighted the need for an action plan to resolve the road safety and traffic management issues that have emerged in the last two days.
Though the part-commissioning of the South District Hospital at Margao on Monday brought relief to the people of South Goa, it has already posed a challenge to the hospital officials as well as to the traffic police on matters pertaining to road safety & traffic management.

The haphazard parking of vehicles and auto rickshaws indirectly poses a threat to the vehicles moving from KTC Bus Stand Margao to the Nuvem-Arlem junction.
On Monday night a pedestrian’s death was reported near the Hospital by the Fatorda Police.
GOACAN has requested the Collector to call an urgent meeting to prepare a plan to handle road safety & traffic management on a short term basis as well as when the schools reopen and more sections of the hospital get activated.
As there are issues of road engineering, pedestrian crossings, fixing of bus stops, proper street illumination, road signages, designated parking for patients, visitors, persons with disabilities etc, it is important to involve all agencies concerned.
The Directorate of Transport will also need to decide whether there will be a new motorcycle pilot & rickshaw stand especially designated for the district hospital.
