Goa’s Young Chess Talents Shine at Commonwealth Chess Championships 2026

Goa’s emerging chess prodigies Ethan Vaz and Evan Antonio Telles delivered exceptional performances at the Commonwealth Chess Championships, securing multiple medals for India and bringing pride to the state.

Eight-year-old Evan Antonio Telles impressed in the Under-8 category by winning a Gold medal in Rapid Chess and a Silver medal in Blitz Chess. He also secured an impressive fifth place in the Standard Chess event, competing against 41 participants from across the Commonwealth nations.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Ethan Vaz dominated the Under-20 section with a stellar display, clinching Gold medals in both Rapid and Blitz Chess while also securing Silver in Classical Chess. With these latest victories, Ethan has now taken his international medal tally to an impressive 30 medals.

The remarkable achievements of both young players have further strengthened Goa’s growing reputation as a nurturing ground for promising chess talent and have earned accolades from the sporting community.
