PANJIM: Goa Congress Monday charged that government was financially exploiting contractual teachers while also delaying salaries of teachers recruited last June.
“The government spent about Rs 7.5 lakh for the renovation of the bungalow of the executive engineer at electricity department colony at Sada, for Power Minister. But the government has no money to make payments to teachers,” Congress spokesman Sudip Tamankar told a press briefing.
Relying on the RTI replies, he lamented that several teachers, who were recruited in June 2012 at various schools have not received payments so far. On the other hand, he said that renewal of contractual teachers’ appointments were uncertain even though they work during vacations.
The Congress leader also alleged that Parrikar was basically intolerant to criticism and targets those who stand up against him or criticize him.
About the alleged misuse of funds, Tamankar cited instance of how the government spent about Rs 7.5 lakh to renovate the government-owned bungalow at Sada for the Power minister, which actually is allotted to the electricity officer. “The officer had to vacate the house to make way for the minister,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tamankar has supported his party colleague and CLP spokesman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco for having written to the CEC seeking whether export of Maharashtra origin ore from Goa is legal or illegal in the wake of the Supreme Court’s order banning mining activities including transportation and export of iron ore from Goa.
“We will not allow anything illegal to happen in Goa… What employment opportunities has the government created? What are the benefits for Goans?” he questioned. He has also alleged that some BJP legislators and leaders own trucks.
Reginaldo was quoted as saying that he has sought details from the CEC to prevent any confrontation with the Supreme Court or CEC.
