PANJIM: The Goa government has cleared six proposals for expansion and modernizing existing industry with an estimated investment of around Rs 457 crore. The new investments, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, primarily focuses on pharmaceutical and hotel industries as it also adds to eight proposals which have been already granted in-principal approval.
The proposals were cleared by the Investment Promotion Board on Saturday, incidentally a day after the Goa Investment Summit 2015 – a prelude to which was held at Dona Paula that saw Parsekar inviting foreign investments in Goa.
The chief minister said that the six proposals have raised the number of proposed industries to Goa to 14, out of which three had sought for extension. “The overall investment has been raised to Rs 1,057 crore. This will create 2,547 jobs for local youth,” he claimed.
During the investment summit, Parsekar spoke of different strides adopted by the government to become an attractive investment destination with high class infrastructure and skilled labour.
“We received a tremendous set back in 2012 year due to blanket ban on iron ore extraction and transportation. However, we have managed
to strike a balance between development needs and environmental concerns for sustained growth,” he was quoted
as saying.
