MARGAO: Power Minister Milind Naik has said the department is seriously considering a proposal to engage an agency to carry out urgent repairs of the underground power lines damaged by the sewerage and water pipeline laying work.
Speaking to the media after reviewing the functioning of the Power Department in the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and senior Power officials at the Aquem Power office on Saturday, Naik conceded that the underground power line has been damaged during the excavation work for the sewerage and water pipeline works. “The damage not only a loss to the department, but disrupts power supply to the city. Since this is a matter of concern, we are considering a proposal to engage an agency for expeditious repairs of the damaged cables to ensure quick restoration of power supply”, the Power Minister said.
Replying to a question on the lower level manpower shortage felt in the Power Department, Naik said that the department has adequate staff, but the problems lie in the posting of employees, frankly admitting that employees use political influence to stall transfer and postings.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that the Power Minister has assured him to illuminate the stretch of the ring road from the Power House junction to the Old Station road.
“The proposal has received administrative approval and the file has gone for government’s financial nod”, Kamat said, while exuding confidence that the Power Minister will sanction the project.
