PANJIM: In spite of members of the Task Force Committee headed by theatre artist Vijay Kenkre of Kala Academy demanding a meeting of the committee, the government appears ‘reluctant’’ to hold it.

According to sources, the members of the committee have been demanding that a meeting be called to discuss the further course of action with regards to haphazard renovation work of the iconic structure despite spending crores on the work but it is not being held.
The committee was constituted following protests by artists over haphazard renovation work of the iconic structure despite spending crores on the work. The committee, which is expected to review present status of infra work of Kala Academy and suggest recommendations for its improvement and upgradation, has officials from Public Works Department (PWD), Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Kala Academy and representatives of Kala Rakhonn Mand and Charles Correia Foundation as members.
A Kala Rakhonn Mand member said, “Even Kala Academy Task Force Committee Chairman Vijay Kenkre has asked for a meeting of the committee but there is still not response from the government. We are demanding a meeting of the committee but it is not happening. They (Public Works Department) are saying that December is a month of events so there is no time to meet.”
Meanwhile, speaking to O Heraldo, Kala Rakhonn Mand Convenor Devidas Amonkar said, “We have advised the government not to hold the A group drama competitions in Kala Academy. During the meetings, it was accepted that Kala Academy is not ready for performances but still the programmes are being allowed to be held. The competitions are likely to begin next week.”
Earlier, Chairman of the Kala Academy Task Force Vijai Kenkre had said that he is not satisfied with the renovations works.
“The work of Kala Academy hasn’t even met the passing standards. KA needs to get back its status and there is lot of work to be done,” he had said.
