PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said that the common man in the State was facing one of the worst power outages this summer while the government and the opposition were engaged in needless power struggles least concerned about the people.
AAP convenor Elvis Gomes said that with the Chief Minister away on treatment, many in the government, including officers, were holidaying abroad leaving the people to sweat it out during the hottest time of the year.
“The losses on burning candles as well as the rotting foodstuff in refrigerators are phenomenal. Add to that the rising power bills which this government has no clue about controlling,” Gomes said.
Calling upon the government to learn from the AAP government that supplies electricity at half the price in Delhi about providing compensation to the people for power failures, AAP called upon the government to show some concern for the common man.
Touching on intense power struggle in Karnataka, Gomes said that for the BJP and the Congress, what mattered is only capture of power and there was no intention to uplift the lives of the people.
AAP also lashed out at reports of toilets for tourists at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore each in Calangute. Calling it another theft in a series of ongoing thefts of public funds, AAP said that in Quepem alone, there were 23 villages, besides in Sattari, Chimbel etc where the locals were forced to defecate in the open and despite making several representations, the government has not built toilets.
