MARGAO: The government has tentatively decided to hold the Republic Day celebrations at the new Collectorate building on January 26, but a final decision will be taken after a week’s time after reviewing the work in progress.
Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, who inspected the new building with district Collector N D Agrawal and senior government officials, sounded a word of caution. “Though the Collectorate will be shifted to the new building on January 25, not all departments can be shifted on one day. We have tentatively decided to hold the Republic day celebrations at the new Collectorate, but after a final decision within a week’s time”, he said, adding “shifting on January 25 is possible. It appears to me that it is possible. But, a final meeting will be held within a week’s time which will be attended by the Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister representing the Taluka”.
Saying that the shifting process is a huge process, Parrikar said the government will resort to staggered shifting, but asserted that shifting of all the departments will be complete by May 30 within a period of four months.
Replying to a question, he said ‘the new Collectorate is too big.
It is done well, but my main worry is its maintenance and security”.
He said that besides the district Collectorate, the new building will house offices of the BDO, RDA, Deputy Director of Panchayats, Land Survey, Civil Registrar and other departments.
