PANJIM: The State government is considering amending the Goa School Education Act 1984 and School Education Rules 1986 in lines with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for its implementation at school level from the next academic year.
Goa has implemented NEP 2020 at the foundation stage, which includes three years of pre-primary School from the ongoing Academic Year.
The government has constituted a committee under Director Education to recommend amendments to the State Education Act and Its Rules. The Committee held its first meeting on Tuesday.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Director Education, Shailesh Zingade said that the committee members comprises of heads of various aided schools and also educational experts. He said that the members are asked to submit their recommendations to amend the Act to tune with NEP 2020.
“We have already implemented NEP at foundation stage. From next year, we want to introduce it at school level and for that purpose it is important that we understand the existing Act and work out amendments to it as required,” he said.
During the meeting, the members also discussed about the need to revise the pattern of assistance/grants to the schools and Higher Secondary schools.
Zingade said that the pattern of assistance for schools was last revised in 2009 while for higher secondary it was way back in 1999.
