PANJIM: The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) has appealed to the people to give a piece of land to the government to construct anganwadi centres as it aims to upgrade infrastructural facilities to the children in Goa.
“Government is making efforts to provide necessary infrastructure to build the future of the nation. Anganwadi is the base of education… all representatives of the people can provide land in their respective areas to construct model anganwadi centers,” WCD Minister Dilip Parulekar said after inaugurating an anganwadi centre at Bambolim on Tuesday. The centre has been built at a total cost of Rs 9.66 lakh.
He said the government has emphasised on providing better infrastructure facilities in education so as to provide quality education to every child. As a part of the scheme, the government is upgrading existing anganwadi centres while it is also identifying suitable land to construct new ones.
Deputy Speaker Vishnu Surya Wagh, who along with other department officials was present at the function, stressed on the need to have full-fledged anganwadi centres. “These are stepping stones in education providing elementary knowledge in the initial stages of childhood. There is need to have full-fledged anganwadi centers throughout the State to fulfill the basic requirement of education,” he said.
