Govt staff may get IT training soon

Goa Government is likely to train its staff in the Information Technology (IT) sector even as the training process is at present extended to students.
Speaking at the launching of ‘e-SMS Goa Mobile Governance & IT Knowledge’ on Tuesday evening, ITG Chairman Subhash Shirodkar urged the Government to enroll government servants into the training process ‘to fill up the gap.’
“Government officials need to be trained…Government should announce that by mid-2011, and at least one-third of the staff are trained in this sector,” he suggested.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat launched the service at the Porvorim Secretariat in the presence of Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava, IT Secretary Kumarswamy and others. The service is a project of Info-Tech Corporation of Goa.
Speaking after the launch, the Chief Minister said the e-SMS service is a step towards m-Governance or mobile service, which is a gateway for the exclusive use of all departments in the State.
The service will be able to connect Government departments elsewhere. A citizen can get alert status of information through the devised SMS portal.
“The service is intended to provide SMS alert. A citizen can pursue his matter or file with a particular department through SMS alerts,” Kumarswamy said.
He stated that the education should be stressed in rural areas as well, so that students can be absorbed for Government or private jobs. 150 students have already been trained while 600 more students are presently undergoing training.
The portal also aims to promote tourism worldwide with certain information about the State already uploaded. The Government is expected to launch 50 services by December 19 and 600 more services in the near future.
