PANJIM: Indirectly admitting that the State is yet to achieve 100 per cent open defecation free (ODF) status, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that government will soon be providing individual toilets to those households, which are without the facility.
Sawant also said that government will cover 100 per cent households with metered piped tap water by March 31, 2020.
The Chief Minister was speaking while addressing the launch of flagship – Yashaswini Scheme and Swawlambhan scheme of the Directorate of Women and Child Development. Also Health Department launched Breast cancer screening and SEHAT.
Union Women and Child Minister Smriti Irani and State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane were also present.
“We have recently announced Goa 100 per cent ODF. Though, we have declared it, in some places we have to provide individual toilets. Soon we will be completing it,” Sawant said.
Speaking earlier, Union Minister Irani said that around 30 lakh women, mostly from the rural part of the country, have undergone screening for cervical cancer under central government’s flagship scheme.
Irani said that it is applaudable that rural women who are reluctant to go through screenings showed good response for the initiative of central government under Ayushman Bharat scheme.
“More than 30 lakh women have been screened for cervical cancer. Traditionally, the women from rural area were reluctant to go through the screening, but they have shown tremendous response for the government’s scheme,” she said.
She also said that 70 lakh poor women also got themselves screened for breast cancer under Ayushman Bharat scheme.
“This is for the first time in the history of India that countrymen are covered with the cover of up to Rs five lakh financial help,” she said.
Irani congratulated the Goa government for keeping a target of screening 20,000 women for breast cancer.
Talking about Ujwala scheme, she said that the goal of covering more than five crore families has been achieved much before the target date.
The minister said the target of covering more than five crore households was set on March 2020, but it was achieved by September 2019 in which eight crore poor women have been provided clean cooking fuel.
