Govt to scrap contract labour system in PWD from april 1

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant informed on Friday that the government has decided to scrap contract labour system in PWD from April 1. Speaking after commissioning a new water treatment plant at Opa, Khandepar, he said, “Since the contract workers are getting low salaries as the contractors are paying them after deducting their commission, the government has decided to scrap the contract labour system in PWD from April 1.” “There will not be a single contract worker in PWD after April 1. After scrapping labour contractor system, the government will directly pay minimum wages to its PWD workers through Labour Supply Society,” he said. The chief minister appreciated the contract workers saying, “Despite not getting salary for three months, these contract workers are sincerely doing their duties and that is why people are getting regular water supply.”
