PANJIM: Directorate of Education (DoE) is awaiting safety guidelines, to be followed whenever classroom learning resumes, for the new academic year 2020-21, from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, for drafting a detailed proposal for reopening of the schools in Goa.
DoE sources said the decision with regards to reopening of schools will be taken only after July 15; and hence, the department is awaiting guidelines from MHRD on safety and from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Once the guidelines are issued, we will draft a detailed proposal to get the State government’s consent. The guidelines will be circulated to the schools for its strict implementation when classes resume physically,” sources added.
The guidelines have been formed by the Ministry’s Dept of School Education and Literacy for Schools.
“The guidelines will include a checklist and recommended measures to ensure student and staff safety,” sources said, while adding that the guidelines will spell out measures for social cum physical distancing; wearing of masks by students; and overall change in school environment, keeping in view the prevailing COVID situation.
“We have to see whether mask would be mandatory throughout school hours or if student will be given some relaxation for certain time,” sources added.
Also, for schools; suspension of morning assemblies and sports activities in the playground, norms for school buses like ‘do’s and don’ts’, regular disinfection of entire building, use of hand sanitizers for students and staff, could be some of the major guidelines.
