PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) office bearers have resolved to file disqualification petition against the 10 rebel MLAs who joined the ruling BJP on July 10.
Convenor of GPCC Communication Cell, Trajano D’Mello informed that in a meeting held on Wednesday the GPCC office bearers passed a resolution that stringent possible action be taken against all the 10 MLAs and all possible avenues be explored, including filing a disqualification petition before the High Court.
The office bearers further expressed that the party doors should be permanently closed for the defectors and some of the office bearers even expressed that if for any reason the defectors are taken back in the party then they would resign en-mass.
Trajano further informed that while taking stock of the party’s present activities in the State, it was pointed out that some of the GPCC office bearers are defunct and unwilling to takeup the responsibilities. “It was suggested by some of the members that such defunct executives be replaced by those willing to work selflessly. The dissolution of some of the Blocks by the District Committee was endorsed and need to reconstitute and strengthen the Blocks was stressed,” he stated.
While the GPCC Office Bearers passed a resolution congratulating Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on being nominated as the Leader of Opposition, on the issue of possibilities of aligning with likeminded parties the office bearers were of the opinion that such an action should only be permitted on the floor of the House to fight as an united opposition. “The office bearers are clear that the Congress party should not have any tie up with Goa Forward Party of any nature”, stated Trajano.
