PANJIM: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat demanded the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar to immediately issue directions to repair the service roads on both the sides of the Zuari Bridge which are in bad condition due to the ongoing construction works of the new bridge.
Speaking during the demands for the PWD, Kamat brought to the notice of the Minister that the potholes were the first encounter for the tourists visiting the state and thus it portrays the state in bad light.
“Goa is an international tourist destination but when a tourist arrives at the Airport and by the time he reaches North Goa he is already tired travelling in the vehicle from Cortalim to Siridao on the potholed roads. You have to immediately direct the construction agency to repair the service roads on war footing within a few days and get rid of the potholes. Either your department does it or you direct the agency to do it but this has to be done immediately”, he demanded.
He further raised objection to the height and kind of speed rumblers being constructed across the state. He said “The speed breakers are thick and if a pregnant lady travels over them one can imagine her plight. You have to issue specific guidelines on the kind and size of the speed breakers that can be constructed.”
Meanwhile, pointing out that despite the laying of sewerage lines across Margao people were reluctant to take sewage connections, he demanded that acting as per the rules it should be made mandatory for every household to have a sewage connection.
He also brought to the notice of the PWD Minister the plight of the engineers who have been promoted on ad-hoc basis but have not received their salaries for more than a year.
He also reiterated his demand for flyovers at Ravanfond and Arlem junction.
