PERNEM: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress has demanded that of State border be sealed immediately due to the spike in coronavirus cases.
Goa Pradesh Youth Congress gathered at the Patradevi Check post on Saturday morning and agitated by demanding that government should immediately seal the border.

Goa Pradesh Youth congress said, “Since the borders are open for people as well as transportation, those people entering the State are paying Rs 2,000 and after giving their swab samples, are directed to undergo strict home quarantine. However, instead of staying indoors, these people move around in the locality, meet people, visit market and having no idea if the report will be negative or positive, Government has no track of these persons whether they are actually staying indoors or moving out.”
The Youth Congress said, “Since all types of vehicles are allowed in the State at the same time, drivers and cleaners of these vehicles also enter into the State. They are being tested. However, by the time their reports are out, these people go to their work place, restaurants, rented rooms etc. In case if any of the driver or cleaner is tested positive then how is the government going to find out his whereabouts and people whom they have interacted during their visit.”
The Youth Congress demanded that Government should make provision of quarantine for people coming from outside at the check post or any other place till their reports are out.
”Virus has reached from Vasco to Chimbel and now Aldona, Pernem and other areas, which is a community transmission. Our only demand is proper checking at the check posts and sealing of borders. Goa is already a red zone, which the government has not declared and soon the situation is going to get worse if borders are not sealed,” former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes alleged.
General Secretary Janardan Bhandari said, “We have submitted several written representations to Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, District Magistrate with a demand that all corona-affected places should be locked down. Also all the borders of Goa be sealed by allowing only Goans to cross the border and opening of OPD at the check post to have proper test of people entering the State. Till now we haven’t received any response from the concerned authorities due to whom today we were are forced to come on the road and agitate to fulfil our demands”.
General Secretary Amarnath Panjikar, Sachin Parab and other office bearers were present.
