The same issue has been reflected other parts of Salcete as well where the sarpanchas have criticized the GSPCB for irregular collection of garbage generated from the door to door collection drive and have appealed to the pollution board to inform the panchayats of a proper time table for garbage collection.
Velim Sarpanch Melwyn Sanchez questioned what has to be done with the garbage left behind by control board and that the area where it is being stored currently is running out of space.
Ambelim sarpanch Tyron Fernandes stated GSPBC has not collected dry garbage for the last six months despite repeated reminders and that the garbage bags were getting wet in the rain and the workers were refusing to take the garbage along with them.
Sarpanchas want the government and the pollution control board to hold a meeting with them to sort out these technical and other coordination issues so that the garbage problem is solved.
It may be recalled that the Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha urging her to involve the pancahyats while creating the strategy to implement the Swach Bharat Scheme of the Prime Minister of India in Goa.
