In a memorandum submitted to Governor, Congress president Luizinho Faleiro pointed that the government has failed to take the political parties and other stakeholders into confidence while issuing the Ordinance, to hold ZP elections on party lines.
“The Government decision to hold ZP elections on the party lines is completely arbitrary, as none of the other political parties or stakeholders have been taken into confidence, and the decision is taken clandestinely with an inexplicable hurry,” he said.
Luizinho also said that the elected North Goa and South Goa Zilla Panchayats have opposed the government’s decision, which is with utter disregard to the democratic process.
“Hence we plead your intervention to withdraw and rescind the notification and Ordinance issued, earlier this month,” he said.
The Congress has also demanded that the delimitation of the ZP wards and reservation be carried out by the State Election Commission and not by VPs.
A five member Congress delegation comprising Luizinho, Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane, MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, Congress vice president M K Shaikh and spokesperson Sunil Kawthanka met the Governor.
