HC Disposes Petition on Lokayukta Post After Goa Govt Commits to Six-Week Deadline

The Goa government has informed the High Court that the appointment process for the post of Lokayukta is currently underway and will be completed within six weeks. The assurance was given during the hearing of a petition filed by politician Trajano D’Mello, seeking the appointment of the anti-corruption ombudsman.

Accepting the state government’s statement, the High Court disposed of the petition. The Lokayukta plays a crucial role in addressing corruption complaints against public officials, and Goa has been without one since the post fell vacant. Officials said the process is in its final stages and will follow all prescribed legal procedures to ensure transparency in the selection.
