The petition concerning the proxy nominations came up on Tuesday, and Dr Salkar’s lawyer presented the new committee members spear headed by Sudin Kamat, who is the joint secretary of the GCA.
Desai was reinstated as GCA secretary on Saturday and immediately after that the joint secretary went ahead and called for the managing committee meeting and appointed three new members to the election committee.
The GCA imbroglio had taken a twist earlier with association President Dr Salkar reinstating former Secretary Dessai and also permitting all the 107 clubs to participate in the forthcoming GCA election.
This was prompted after former GCA President Vinod Phadke and Dessai, along with representatives of 40 cricket clubs – whose proxy applications to participate in the election of Goa Cricket Association to be held on June 28 were rejected by GCA election committee – stormed into the GCA office and ‘gheraoed’ Dr Salkar and secretary Kamat recently. Within 48 hours of reinstating Dessai, Salkar again ejected Dessai from the post.
Dessai and Dr Salkar had differences in the past and these have come to the fore ahead of the GCA election scheduled for June 20. The elections were later called off due to the infighting.
Desai had demanded that votes be cast by the secretary or the president of the clubs ahead of the GCA polls.
On Monday, at the first hearing, Dr Salkar’s lawyers had asked for a day’s time to file their replies to the petition.
