HC reserves order in matka case

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday reserved its judgment on whether to hand over the matka case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Petitioner Kashinath Shetye had sought a CBI inquiry as the matka racket has links with multiple states. He contended that Goa Police have been accused in the case and questioned how they will investigate the case.
However, the division bench comprising Justice F M Reis and Justice Nutan Sardesai asked Crime Branch whether it can investigate the case after forming a SIT (Special Investigation Team). The public prosecutor said this was not possible. He also objected to handing over the case to the central agency claiming out of state investigation is not possible for the agency.
