VASCO: School headmistress Sharlet Furtado, who was arrested in connection with negligence in the sexual assault case of a seven-year-old girl, has been remanded to seven days police custody.
Mormugao Police on Monday produced the headmistress before the Vasco JMFC and obtained a seven–day remand for her in police custody. Mormugao PI Suresh Gaonkar informed that the headmistress has sought bail before the Children’s Court and the matter will come up for hearing on Tuesday at 2.30 pm.
When asked if police would also arrest the teacher and clerk suspended by the school management for their involvement in the tampering of evidence, PI Gaonkar said: “We are only dealing with the case pertaining to negligence. Other aspects are being investigated by the Crime Branch.”
In a related development, the school management appears to have distanced itself from the arrested school headmistress, following her arrest on charges of negligence.
When asked if the school management would take up the case of the headmistress, an official of the school management replied: “The management has nothing to do with the case of negligence and she will have to pursue it (the case) herself.”
